INTRAV Announces Cruises and Tours Featuring
The Oberammergau Passion Play
Three separate journeys for the summer of 2000 will include performances of the
world-renowned Oberammergau Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany. Admission to the
full-day play, which is staged every ten years, is part of INTRAV's Rhine and Mosel
riverboat cruise; Swiss Alps adventure; or Danube River cruise. The villagers of
Oberammergau have been staging the Passion Play, which depicts the death and resurrection
of Jesus, for the past 350 years as a tribute to God for saving them from the Black
Plague, making it one of the most historic theatrical events in Europe.
The three adventures featuring the Oberammergau Passion Play are:
- Oberammergau and the Mosel, Rhine and Neckar Rivers, a 13-day adventure combining
the Passion Play with a journey through some of Europe's most breathtaking scenery and a
visit to Munich.
- Oberammergau and Switzerland's Glacier Express, a 13-day adventure, combines a
performance of the Passion Play with a journey through the spectacular Swiss Alps,
including a scenic rail journey aboard the Glacier Express train. Passengers will enjoy
two nights each in Munich, Oberammergau and St. Moritz, Switzerland.
- Oberammergau and Danube River Cruise, which begins with a 3-night visit to Munich
and a performance of the Passion Play. Passengers then embark in Salzburg for a 7-night
leisurely cruise on the Danube River through Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary.
